"A" Rating

Posted by tosok - 2 weeks ago

I'm not sure why, but some of my art has been marked as adult despite it not being sexual. They contain mild nudity, but the nudity is not sexual and aren't the centre of the pieces, anyways. Sorry about that, I'm not sure how to fix it because when I go to change it back to M for mature it says it's locked as Adult.

I'm not really sure if this is that way, but if it doesn't let you change the rating label of your submission, then that must mean it's been manually changed by a Moderator already.

Also, "mild nudity"... One submission contains a character showing their chest, and the other contains a character with their genitalia out. There's no "mild nudity" point - even if it's not in a sexual manner, genitalia-showing/nudity is always a safe bet for marking your submission(s) as "A"(dult) rated content.

Why is there an option for "mild nudity" that marks it as M? How would you define "mild nudity"? My previous understanding of mild nudity was artistic nudity that isn't fetish/sexual, which is exactly what these pieces are.

@tosok

"Please make your best effort to rate your art appropriately. Mild artistic nudity (non-sexualized butts, mostly) is allowed in M-rated submissions but we ask that nudity not be shown in a thumbnail unless a submission is A-rated."

That's exactly, word by word, what it says on the Art Submission Guidelines (which I think that's where you got your argument from), and it seems you have misunderstood them.

This is an example for what it's referred more or less as "mild nudity":

(https://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/legolass/magearna-s-scrapyard)

What you submitted, on the other hand, isn't "mild nudity", but directly "nudity" - the characters of your submissions show nakedness on both cases (one by showing their chest, the other their genitalia).

My own definition of "mild nudity" would be of a character like the one of the art submission I did put previously, as an example (they have a tight pin-up, they have more or less little clothing put on...), but without explicitly showing their (even if it's not the focus of the drawing) private parts, like yours.

I hope I have made myself clear with my response - if you have any other doubts, you're always free to contact via PM with a Moderator of the Art Portal for asking. I'm sure they would give you a better (and more precise) response than me (though I don't think it's really that necessary for this case, since I think I have told you everything you should know.)

Thanks for your response. I misunderstood the word nudity, I thought it refers only to showing the chest, behind, and genitals, not to mildly suggestive art. I'll keep this in mind for future submissions.
